What decides the price
- Soil. The single biggest variable. Well-draining soil supports a simple gravity field; slow-draining or shallow soil forces a larger field or an engineered system.
- Bedrooms. Systems are sized by bedroom count.
- Lot access and terrain. Flat and open is cheap; wooded hillside means slower machine work and sometimes a pump chamber.
- Permit and inspections. County fees are modest; the contractor's design and inspection coordination are part of the quote.

Georgia sizes systems by bedroom count as a proxy for water use, requires a two-compartment tank with an effluent filter, and the county sanitarian's test-pit evaluation decides what your lot can support. Forsyth Environmental Health warns applications can take twenty business days or more; plan the septic permit before the building permit, because you can't get the second without the first. In the Blue Ridge transition (north Cherokee, Dawson) expect an engineered system more often than not.
